Exotic Packaging: Japanese Calligraphy

I ordered a spatula from Amazon. I wanted a particular style in a particular colour. 

And you know how it is with Amazon; you can't tell where your order is coming from.

Well, the spatula took a while to turn up but it was exactly what I wanted so I didn't mind. 

And it arrived with a little note in English from the seller, who is Japanese. 

He/she likes to practise calligraphy and so every parcel gets a hand written - painted? - sheet.

I have no idea what this says so do forgive me if it is offensive. I hope not. Because if it is offensive  it's not such a nice gesture.

I just thought it rather fun. And what a nice addition to a business transaction.

Don't you think it makes European writing look dull?

Exotic Packaging: Walkers Crisps Tin

I saw this Walkers Crisps tin for sale on Etsy and could not resist buying it. Although I confess I was surprised to find it quite so large. About 10" or 250mm high. I guess you could store a large packet of crisps in it (Walkers obviously) but I have already started using it to keep my collection of fancy string and ribbons and gift tags organised.

I have no idea when the tin was made but maybe I'll find out one day. I don't ever remember seeing them on sale but of course that doesn't mean anything.

Isn't it fun though? It shows the (original I suppose) Walker & Son shop in Leicester, and a mustachioed man who must be Mr Walker.

Considering I write about crisps and crispy snacks on a daily basis I couldn't really ask for a better tin. Brilliant.

Exotic Packaging: Lindt & Sprüngli Easter Bunny

I find packaging so fascinating. Last Easter this sheet of shiny gold paper was the wrapping for a little chocolate bunny. And here it is all flattened out. See how the ears aren't in quite the same place.
I wonder how many tries the packaging technician needed to get it exactly right?

Exotic Packaging: Jo Malone tissue paper

I got some Jo Malone bath oil for Christmas. Rose. Absolutely delicious. And it came wrapped in this fascinating tissue paper. And the design appears to be based on radicchio. Which is, of course, a kind of lettuce.

It's probably not meant to be a lettuce design but I couldn't help it. It looks just so like.

Exotic Packaging: Penhaligon's tissue paper

Isn't this pretty? If you buy anything from Penhaligons it comes wrapped in this lovely tissue paper. Which not only looks good but lasts a long time; as my collection of Christmas baubles can tell you. It's a slightly crisp tissue and wraps things much better than the softer stuff.
